As the holidays draw near, it’s important now more than ever to have an arsenal of SCD legal recipes you can take with you or you can make for your guests. Participating in social activities that revolve around food can be distressing if you are following a special diet, like SCD. Planning ahead can make the difference between enjoying a family get-together or feeling left out. I want to help you with that so today I am sharing some delicious pumpkin recipes. Not all of them are SCD legal out of the gate so keep in mind that some modifications are necessary to make them SCD friendly. Despite making these small modifications, I think you are bound to find the perfect pumpkin recipe for your Thanksgiving! Enjoy!
1. Paleo Pumpkin Coffee Cake by Jay’s Baking Me Crazy
Coffee cake is the perfect breakfast for guests. This pumpkin coffee cake will not disappoint! To make this SCD friendly, switch the maple syrup with honey and leave out the coconut sugar.
2. Paleo Pumpkin Pie by Elana’s Pantry
Pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving go hand in hand for a lot of people. I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin pie, but this recipe is so simple and easy enough to travel – it could be just the thing to keep you at the dinner table and enjoying dessert with the rest of your family. You can simplify this recipe even more by skipping the crust altogether!
3. Paleo Pumpkin Bars by Hummusapien
If you aren’t into pie, and are looking for something kid-friendly this recipe could be the ticket. They ALMOST look chocolatey, right? To make this SCD friendly, replace the syrup with honey and the chocolate chips with a nut of your choice. I’m thinkin’ this would be a great snack too.
4. Paleo Pumpkin Bars by Paleo Newbie
This is a fancier looking pumpkin bar recipe and special enough for Thanksgiving for sure. The best part? No changes to this recipe to make it SCD friendly! YAY! Make sure you chill the filling for a couple of hours before serving.
5. Grain Free and Dairy Free Pumpkin Pie by Against All Grain
Here is another great pumpkin pie recipe from Danielle. She always has such amazing recipes! This is another recipe that is completely SCD friendly. Enjoy!
6. Pumpkin Streusel Pie by The Nourishing Gourmet
If you’re looking for a non-traditional pumpkin pie then have I found you a treat! The streusel in this recipe is made of nuts, coconut oil, and honey. Leave out the flaxseed – it’s not SCD legal. I don’t think you’ll miss it with the crunchy, nutty-ness of the top and the creamy pumpkin middle – I can’t wait to try this recipe!
Which recipe are you going to try this Thanksgiving? Let me know which one you tried and how it turned out in the comments.
