Bloating. That uncomfortable, heaviness and distended belly that can make you feel yucky. Sometimes it doesn’t matter if you sit, stand, walk, jump… it still feels ick to be bloated. Yuck! I hate it. In years past, I may have simply chewed a bunch of Rolaids or Tums and hoped for the best. Now? I’m trying to keep my body clear of extra chemicals and sugar and food coloring and all the other ingredients I can’t pronounce. Because of that, I have a stock of natural treatments to remedy the situation. These are what works for me, I hope you can find relief too! Try one, try two or go crazy and try them all. You never know what combination might work for you. Here we go!
Use “Digestzen” Essential Oil
It’s my favorite go-to oil for all of my stomach issues…and trust me, there are days when it is my lifeline. It is a blend of 7 different oils (Ginger, Peppermint, Tarragon, Fennel, Caraway, Coriander and Anise. These oils are anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and/or calming oils. I buy mine from DoTerra. Young Living sells something similar called “Di-gize”. To make it super easy to use, I have mine in a roller bottle mixed with Fractionated Coconut oil. To create a roller bottle: put 15 drops of Digestzen in a 10 ml roller bottle and fill it to the top with FCO. That’s it! Pretty simple, huh? Apply directly to your stomach. You can re-apply every 30 minutes if you don’t get relief right away.
Tonight I added “Clary Sage” about 2 minutes after the “Digestzen”. Clary Sage is known for it’s use with ‘female problems’ which of course includes bloating. I find I get quicker relief when I combine the two. Ginger is also a great oil for digestive relief.
I love my heating pad like this one. In fact, just writing that reminded me of how much I love it so I took a break, grabbed it and threw it in the microwave. Now I have all that warm goodness in my lap. Best. Thing. Ever. Do you know what’s my favorite though? It helps you relax. It’s easy to feel uptight when you aren’t feeling well. And then what happens? Well…everything else gets tight- so go grab your heating pad, I’ll wait right here till you get back. Isn’t it the best? ahh.
Pour yourself a hot cup of tea. Chamomile is an anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory and calming herb. It will reduce your gas and bloating and add even more of that lovely warmth you have from your heating pad..only on the inside.
Drink a Cup of Hot Water with Lemon
Lemon is a great detoxifier. It will help clear out your system so you can get rid of that bloating and probably the gas that is causing it. This is a great drink to use on a regular basis to prevent future episodes.
You don’t have to be a regular yoga-er to get relief from bloating. Is that even a word? It should be. Many of the twisting poses will help detox your body and relieve your bloating. This is a great video and it’s only 2:15! I also love the following poses: “prayer twist”, “reclined supine twist”, and the “seated twist”. A quick google search on any of these poses and you will be on your way to detoxing your body and getting rid of that uncomfortable belly.
I hope these remedies have helped you as much as they have helped me. Do you have any tricks for easing your stomach discomforts? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
