Hey. How are you? Feeling overwhelmed? Yeah, me too.
Today I want to offer you words of encouragement if you are feeling overwhelmed by life right now. It may be stuff at work or home, a relationship, money, your health, whatever it may be. It feels like the pressure is building and you know that you have to push through it or past it, but it’s hard. You want to take a day and re-group, refresh, reset, but you can’t.
Your adult life asks you to show up every day.
I get it! I have been feeling particularly overwhelmed this week. There are so many new things to adjust to from our move yet- even though it was almost a month and a half ago. My kids had their first full week of school, which means a much earlier wake-up time. Work has been particularly demanding this week with multiple deadlines and deadlines that changed on a daily basis. I’m failing to fit all my priorities into every day. In short, I’m exhausted. I want the train to stop and….well….it’s not going to is it?
So we power through our day and we come out the other side a little beat up – or a lot since it’s Friday! 🙂 What do you need in this moment? A friend. Someone to tell you it’s not okay, but you will get through it. It will all work out. I’m here to tell you–
YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT:
You don’t need to do it alone
So often we plow through our day, pushing ourselves to the brink and not asking for help because we can do it. We KNOW we can do it. I know you can do it too, but you don’t have to. You really don’t have to, okay? Lean on your Savior. Start or end your day with these verses so you don’t forget: you are NEVER alone.
Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Isaiah 41:10 10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
You don’t have to fear failure
This is such a biggie for a lot of us, isn’t it? For me, it always goes back to that feeling of ‘not good enough’. If you are like me and you have to quiet that voice inside your head then maybe these passages will help you too. Sometimes God asks us to do things that feel uncomfortable, that stretch us. Sometimes we may feel like God is stretching us past our skill set, past what we are capable of or can handle, but isn’t he the one who knows you best? As a teacher, I often see the potential in students before they see it in themselves. My job is to push them towards it until they can see it for themselves. If you are feeling overwhelmed, God may be pushing you towards your potential. Trust Him. Where He leads you will always be significantly better than anything you could have dreamed for yourself.
Psalm 46:1-3 1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Psalm 16:8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
You can find peace
It can be found. Maybe you are looking in the wrong places. As much as we’d like to think we can find it, peace is not in Netflix, Facebook, Pinterest, the freezer or the pantry or even in a good book. Go ahead, look again.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
